The book brings together in dialogue the essays of Jorge Otero-Pailos, professor and director of heritage preservation at Columbia University in New York, and the texts of invited Czech and Slovak authors, among whom are not only architects or experts in heritage preservation, but also people from other cultural fields. Jorge Otero-Pailos explores the possibilities of monument protection as a new form of cultural production. It expands the meaning of monuments beyond the boundaries of institutionally protected objects, as well as the range of creative tools with which to reveal and thus protect memory. The texts of other authors are a reaction to the topics and questions that Jorge Otero-Pailos presents in his reflections. Sometimes they respond more directly, other times they are more initiatory for them. They examine the possible application of similar approaches and experiences in the specifics of the local environment and supplement them with their own views on the issue, personal attitudes, topics.--
