Queenie and Delta share their creator's genes as well as her memories. But each was cloned for a different purpose: Delta's a scientist; Queenie's a solider, leader of the Heartbreaks, a squad of expert bodyguards based on her DNA. When they find and reassemble the legendary 19th century robot known as Boilerplate, lost since World War I, their android, Femiquin 44, falls for the big lug. The mechanical man also attracts attention from rogue researchers who set their sights on dismantling him to exploit the valuable technology hidden inside. Meanwhile, radical change is afoot: clones have finally won partial human rights and are no longer treated as property. Now the race is one to develop androids that can serve as the new slave workers. But if a droid walks, talks, and thinks like a human...is it more than just a machine? Heartbreakers meet Boilerplate interweaves this multilayered story with historical tales of Boilerplate, including period photos. The art for the story was created using a new technique called paintography which fuses drawing, painting, and photography into a distinctive illustration style.
