Power of attorney granted by Martín Fernández de Córdoba y Guzmán, mayor of the villages of San Miguel and San Felipe, Frontera de las Chichimecas in New Spain (now San Miguel de Allende), to his brother, Gonzalo de Cárdenas y Córdoba of the city of Córdoba in Spain. Martín Fernández, legitimate son of Gaspar Fernández de Córdoba and Leonor de Zúñiga y de Guzmán, grants full power of attorney to his brother Gonzalo, to act on his behalf in all legal matters, lawsuits, and agreements involving the administration of the estate which Martín inherited upon the death of another brother, Alvaro Fernández de Córdoba, a priest in Córdoba. Martín outlines Gonzalo's responsibilities as his proxy, which include collecting rents on family land holdings, issuing cartas de pago (receipts), and providing yearly donations to the priests of the convent of Santa María de los Angeles for masses and alms. The document is signed and executed before a notary public of the town council of San Miguel and San Felipe, Melchor Gutiérrez, on October 16, 1613; and is officially recorded October 18, 1613 by three other notaries, Andrés de los Reyes, Juan de Aguilar, and Antonio de las Navas.
