Abstract: "In order to collect data that would be useful in training and testing a system that could cope with spontaneous natural speech, a new experiment was designed that did not use read speech. This report describes the interactive (simulated telephone) collection method and the recording conditions. It also describes the conventions used for transcribing the conversations. This data was then used to train and test speech recognition devices for voice translation. The reader may also wish to have technical reports CMU-CS-92-149, CMU-CS-92-197, and CMU-CS-92-198. This report was also published as CMU-CS-92-199."
