The impostor phenomenon (IP) refers to individuals with a record of high achievement who continue to see success as due to factors other than their own abilities, such as luck or charm. Impostors are unable to modify their self-concept even in the face of objective evidence of their success. To date, much of the research concerning the impostor phenomenon is either anecdotal or contradictory in its results.
