It is neither the internet nor the television (which holds plenty of information and is without a doubt the most important source in requiring recent news) but the dictionary he will seek his information in. In the time of globalization, the influence and significance of communicating with humans of different speaking languages is raising. Language is first of all a means of communication and it is no exaggeration if one is proclaiming that knowing more than the native tongue and being at least bilingual has become a normalcy. If we want to understand and communicate with people of other nations, we ultimately have to learn their language and vice versa. Dictionaries provide the basic information if it is about learning something of different languages. The importance of the dictionary becomes evident by the fact that over 90 % of households in Britain possess at least one dictionary, therefore making it far more popular than the Bible, which was to be found in about 80 % of households in England in 1983, according to the Bible Society. 1 The dictionary being referred to in this term paper is one particular type of dictionary, namely the monolingual dictionary for the adult native speaker of English. The aim of this work is to outline the history as well as the structure of a common dictionary. How is it arranged, what content and information does it provide and what purposes does it fulfil? These and other questions will be subjects of concern. Besides dictionaries, other helpful sources exist in attaining a language’s vocabulary, phrases and synonyms. One of these excellent sources is a thesaurus, which will be the subject of the second half in this term paper. Stress is being put on the history as well as the structure and content of a thesaurus.

Brownian motion is one of the most important stochastic processes in continuous time and with continuous state space. Within the realm of stochastic processes, Brownian motion is at the intersection of Gaussian processes, martingales, Markov processes, diffusions and random fractals, and it has influenced the study of these topics. Its central position within mathematics is matched by numerous applications in science, engineering and mathematical finance. Often textbooks on probability theory cover, if at all, Brownian motion only briefly. On the other hand, there is a considerable gap to more specialized texts on Brownian motion which is not so easy to overcome for the novice. The authors’ aim was to write a book which can be used as an introduction to Brownian motion and stochastic calculus, and as a first course in continuous-time and continuous-state Markov processes. They also wanted to have a text which would be both a readily accessible mathematical back-up for contemporary applications (such as mathematical finance) and a foundation to get easy access to advanced monographs. This textbook, tailored to the needs of graduate and advanced undergraduate students, covers Brownian motion, starting from its elementary properties, certain distributional aspects, path properties, and leading to stochastic calculus based on Brownian motion. It also includes numerical recipes for the simulation of Brownian motion.

Die vermeintliche Lösung für ihre Probleme finden Manager in immer wieder neuen Managementtechniken, die ihnen von verschiedenen Akteuren nahe gelegt werden. Die Lebenszyklen dieser Techniken haben sich von durchschnitt-lich 14,8 Jahren in den fünfziger Jahren auf durchschnittlich 2,6 Jahre in den neunziger Jahren verkürzt. Die Fachliteratur geht daher so weit, diese Konzepte als "Managementmoden" zu bezeichnen. Ähnlich wie ästhetische Moden erleben sie einen Popularitätsschub, schaffen es jedoch nicht, fest in den Unternehmen verankert zu werden. Das Ziel dieser Arbeit ist es, Wissen über die Lebenszyklen von Managementmoden sowie die Rollen unterschiedlicher Akteure bei deren Gestaltung zusammenzutragen. Hierbei soll der Fokus besonders auf der Interdependenz der verschiedenen Akteure liegen. Des Weiteren soll diese Arbeit einen Beitrag zum Verständnis von Faktoren, die zum Erfolg von Managementmoden führen, leisten. Aufgrund der Fülle unterschiedlicher Definitionen wird in Kapitel zwei das Erfahrungsobjekt dieser Arbeit, Managementmoden, definiert. Als Grundlage für die späteren Betrachtungen wird auf die vier Phasen des Lebenszyklus von Managementmoden eingegangen. Anschließend werden in Kapitel drei die Rollen verschiedener Akteure in den unterschiedlichen Phasen des Lebenszyklus erläutert. Lena Böttcher offers an overdue exploration of the early years of the deaconess community in Neuendettelsau from a gender perspective. Drawing on rich archival material, she focuses on the process of a distinctive collective identity. Central to this study is the assumption, drawn from the social sciences, that collective identity is a social construction which requires the participation of the whole group through identification and which is consolidated by developing specific rituals, symbols, codes and normative texts, which facilitate integration, and by constructing external boundaries, which separate from the world and the wider church. This approach highlights the fact that the women were not merely passive recipients but participated and contributed to the formation of a distinct Neuendettelsau deaconess culture. Thus, this study offers an explanation for the popularity such institutes enjoyed amongst single and widowed Protestant women in the latter half of the nineteenth century. In consequence, this study significantly widens the scope of historical research on the Institute which so far has tended to take into account solely the male perspective of the Rektoren.
