Proceedings of the 9th International Symposium on Scale Modeling This volume contains the works presented at the ninth edition of the International Symposium on Scale Modeling, ISSM9. The symposium brought together 53 scientists from 8 different countries and 3 continents, from both Academia and Research Centers; they participated virtually or in person to present the latest developments and trends in scale application and progress in several engineering fields (mostly in continuum mechanics and fluid dynamics). During the symposium there were 4 keynote talks, the related abstracts are here enclosed. The contents of the talks are about the state-of-the-art of similitude theory and scale modeling and they are useful for any researcher interested in similar topics.

La figura di Federico II Hohenstaufen ha sempre affascinato chiunque, soprattutto in virtù di alcuni suoi soprannomi con i quali è noto ancora oggi: Puer Apuliae e Stupor Mundi. Poco importa, in effetti, che entrambi i nomignoli abbiano avuto una genesi decisamente lontana nel significato da quella attribuita, erroneamente o meno, oggi. Federico II è stato veramente il Fanciullo delle Puglie? È stato veramente lo Stupore del Mondo? Oppure dobbiamo renderci conto che il primo ha un'origine infamante e denigratorio, visto che viene coniato e adoperato per la prima volta dai partigiani di Ottone di Brunswick, suo avversario per il trono imperiale, per indicare quel ragazzino nemmeno maggiorenne che veniva dall'Apulia, con pochi uomini al suo fianco, a sfidare lo stesso Ottone; così come sono in molti ad essere stati accompagnati dalla considerazione di Stupor Mundi, fra cui c'è anche papa Innocenzo III, suo tutore. Nella stessa definizione di Puer Apuliae si gioca, inoltre, tutta l'intera questione sulla figura mitologica dello Svevo proprio in Puglia, terra nella quale è assunto in sostanza a elemento totemico, in cui quasi l'intera popolazione conosce Federico II e dove viene tenuto in una considerazione altissima pur essendo scomparso da ormai 772 anni. Questo lavoro verterà su alcuni punti salienti delle imprese belliche e diplomatiche federiciane, per poi soffermarsi sull'impronta culturale data dalla sua corte itinerante per poi passare all'analisi del Mito e dei suoi risvolti positivi nella Puglia ed ancora ostili nel Nord Italia.
