Old coal mines have been repurposed as storage facilities for the comatose, brain dead, and critically ill individuals whom new laws demand must be kept in permanent stasis, regardless of the emotional and financial hardships this creates for their families. Frank Ersatz works as a technician at the Yellow Springs facility in Indian Hook where he is responsible for the care of tens of thousands of the patients the insurance industry calls the Unconscious Beloved.
