Traces the fate of the 41 Jews who were still living in the north German town of Verden in 1938. Documents the deportation on 27 October of a Jewish family with Polish passports. Describes the burning of the synagogue and arrest of Jewish men on "Kristallnacht". Chronicles the exclusion of Jews from economic life, emigration, and deportation to the Minsk ghetto in November 1941. Most of the inhabitants of this ghetto died of starvation and disease in the winter of 1941-42; the 10,000 survivors were massacred in the gravel pits near the town in July 1942. Includes photographs and facsimiles of documents.
