During the 90's, Brazilian society was efficient in order to reduce illiteracy, and to increase schooling across its counties and States. At the same time, the Brazilian inequality in illiteracy and schooling declined in a generalized way. The Brazilian income inequality was reduced in the same period, but it did not follow the same performance of illiteracy and schooling index of inequality, and it is not possible to state that it was a generalized fact across Brazilian counties. This evidence may suggest a week relationship between schooling and income. The main goal of this paper is to analyze, by using alternative econometric methods, the role of schooling on the per capita income Brazilian counties.
