In the first half of 2016, Wageningen UR Greenhouse Horticulture investigated the effect of electric root zone heating on growth, production and quality of strawberries. The experiment was commissioned by Warmgras B.V. There were two levels of substrate heating. The average substrate temperature increased by 1.5 and 3.0 °C respectively in comparison with the unheated control treatment. From the end of April to mid-June, the number of fruits increased significantly with substrate heating. In this period the total production seemed also to increase in the tested everbearer by substrate heating with 7 and 14%, respectively.
