The primary objective of this field-based research was to determine the applicability of the current coalbed methane technology to the production of gas from the Appalachian Basin coal resource. Related objectives were to: 1) provide techniques to characterize and hydraulically stimulate this resource; 2) predict and measure gas production and correlate with assumed production mechanisms; 3) disseminate information obtained to interested parties; and 4) recommend further research to optimize production from this resource.
