This book examines mangrove ecosystems along the western coast of Ceará, Brazil. It analyzes the spatial dynamics and evolution of mangrove areas from 1978 to 2008 using remote sensing techniques and geographic information systems. The authors discuss discrepancies in previous quantitative assessments of mangrove coverage and investigate factors affecting mangrove preservation and expansion, including tourism development, shrimp farming, and other human impacts.
