The second year of the project was mainly devoted to intense CTD cruises at stations that are in the frame of the coastal observing network in the Gulf of Trieste. Two project partners, LBM of Trieste, Italy and NIB.MBS of Piran, Slovenia, conducted 36 cruises over a one-year period on a grid of 19 CTD stations in the teritory waters of Italy and Slovenia. Summary description of the work In the period July to December 2003, Marine Biology Station (MBS) of NIB was engaged in the activities defined in work packages, and mainly continued with the work that was not completed in the period JanuaryžJune 2003. The activities related to the Country Profile and to the list of national capacities were finished.

Model results of the AREG tidal model, that is based on Princeton Ocean Model (POM) architecture with sigmažcoordinate system, are presented together with the difficulties that were encountred in running the model in 3D mode=3. The tidal model is almost sufficiently calibrated, with the amplitude different from the observations for less than 2.2 cm and the phase for less than 29,5 °. Maximum difference in phase occured in a port that is the southern most one along the eastern coast of the Adriatic Sea (Durres).
