Survey presenting a detailed review of methodologies used in recent economic studies on the effects of regulation in airline markets, with some issues on motor carrier freight transportation also discussed. Topics reviewed include the effects of regulation of fares; the quality of services; route structures; the effects on stock returns of transportation companies; the effects on productivity and costs of the companies; and the identification of the beneficiaries of regulation. Each of the topics involves different methodologies, which are also discussed.
