Pina Bausch (1940-2009) became a cult figure in the international dance scene with her "Tanztheater Wuppertal" which she both founded and directed. In her choreographies she combined classical dance with elements of performance art, mime, acrobatics, sports, acting, and song, thereby creating a new art genre that both suited the spirit of the times and, by the artistic radicality of her productions, set the parameters for the future of dance theater. Wim Wenders dedicates his remarkable documentary Pina to her oeuvre. The film won the Deutscher Filmpreis 2011 for best documentary and was nominated for the 2012 Oscar for best documentary. Donata Wenders' still camera accompanied the shooting of Wim Wenders' congenial homage to Pina Bausch and her celebrated ensemble. This book offers a unique view of both the film and the stunning oeuvre of revolutionary choreographer Pina Bausch and her legendary dance company.

Following up on the successful CD and movie that brought renewed fame to this Latin band is this book of photographs, film stills, and text featuring the performing artists and scenes of Havana. The material is compiled by Cooder and the directors of the documentary film of the same name. 150 color and duotone plates. Coincides with a Spring 2000 band tour.

La fotografia mi ha offerto un linguaggio per esprimere quello che ho dentro. Donata fotografa in bianco e nero e quasi esclusivamente persone, mentre io uso solo il colore e preferisco i luoghi, quindi non ci intralciamo e di certo non entriamo mai in competizione. Guardo il suo lavoro con assoluta ammirazione, specialmente se siamo stati nello stesso posto assieme Quando mi trovo ad osservare un ambiente che mi piace molto, quando mi sento vicino alle persone che ho davanti allobiettivo e quando cè la luce giusta, ogni volta sento che è un vero miracolo.
