Urban education has been the topic of numerous research studies. In particular, the lack of highly qualified teachers who teach in hard to staff high-poverty urban schools has drawn considerable interest from educational scholars. This study examined one particular collaborative elementary education program that was designed to recruit and educate teachers who would then work in urban schools. This study focused on: (1) emergent trends pertaining to gender, race, and graduation rates, (2) possible factors which may have contributed to a decline in the number of minority graduates, (3) academic and financial needs of survey respondents, (4) employment in the field of education, and (5) recommendations for the improvement of the program.

This story is about the life of an American Negro by the name of Howard Carter Ferebee. He was my uncle. As far as I know the official account of his demise is accurate. When his ship, the USS Luchenbach was torpedoed by a German U boat in the North Atlantic on its way to Europe, there were no known survivors.
