The papers of John S. Baker span the years 1920-1986; they include Baker’s personal correspondence from 1920-1931 with his family during his travels to Europe and California. John Baker and his daughters converse while he is in places such as San Francisco, Pasadena, Karlsbad, Paris, Los Angeles, New York, Victoria, B.C., Cannes, Genoa, Florence, New York and Chicago. In many of them, Virginia and Anne write with their caretaker and family friend, Emma B. Hall. Included are minutes from board meetings of the Winthrop Hotel Corp., the Baker Investment Co., IXL Mining and Milling Co., Citizens Hotel, and the Washington Building Company. The dates range up into the time several of them were dissolved, around 1986. They include the involvement of John Baker’s wife, Florence, in the businesses after his death. All business meeting minutes and papers are arranged by business and then in numerical order by year. There are also family photographs included in this collection. The photographs are separated into different family members, and include the parents of John Baker, John and Florence Baker, friends of the family, and Bernice Ainsworth, whose pictures make up a majority of the photograph collection. Motion picture film has been separated.
