The main aim of this book is to present current research outcomes from quantitative analysis of Czech sign language. A multidisciplinary research project entitled “The Theoretical Basis for Teaching Czech Sign Language Tested through Quantitative Linguistic Methods” was carried out by researchers from three faculties of Palacký University in Olomouc, Czech Republic. It is the first attempt in the field of quantitative linguistics applied to a sign language. The authors believe that their book can serve at least as an introduction for further steps in this meritorious interdisciplinary area.

This book deals with 636 open-air museums in 31 European countries, and presents various details concerning the evolution of European vernacular architecture and the modern approach to open-air museums reconstructing old ways of living in the countryside. The publication has many illustrations and also contains 2339 black-and-white photos. In addition to scholars and the general reader, the book will also be of interest to open-air museums, as it provides insights into attracting visitors to such institutions.

Na našem trhu ojedinělá publikace seznámí čtenáře se souvislostmi vzniku lidové architektury u nás i v sousedních a dalších zemích Evropy. Na základě historického a etnologického studia řeší vznik a rozvoj místní architektury obydlí od jejich základních forem po vrcholné v různých podmínkách přírodních a sociálních. Vysvětluje vliv tradic, které v určitých časových obdobích vytvářely stylově jednotné oblasti. Pozornost věnuje také historickým proměnám funkcí staveb a nároků jejich uživatelů. Kniha rovněž vysvětluje pojem lidové architektury a její vztahy k architektuře slohové. Text je provázen názornými nákresy konstrukčních principů a fotografiemi architektonických celků.
