The first field trip stop will be at Tunnel Hill railroad tunnel cut out of the Pennsylvanian Tradewater Fm of clastic deposits of estuarine, Fluvial, and marginal marine environments. The second field trip stop will be at Millstone Bluff with exposures of Mississippian Kinkaid Limestone, a shallow marine carbonate, and Pennsylvanian Caseyville Sandstone, as well as petroglyphs. A possible third field trip stop will be at the Millstone Lake site where at 2011 flood induced mass wasting exposed shale layers and the Goreville member of the Kinkaid Limestone with karst features, marine fossils and iron concentrations. The final field trip stop will be at the Garden of the Gods with exposures of Caseyville deltaic sandstone deposits.
