Human Cattle is a powerful saga of three generations of slave women. Set in 1857 by Liberty Dendron, Human Cattle digs deep to bring the story of slavery in the South full circle—from concealment to recovery. A powerful masterwork of passion and scholarship. A stunning literary achievement that brilliantly illuminates one of the most extraordinary events in the long, dark history of slavery in America. Be very sure you want to know what you are about to read, you‘ll never forget it. Human Cattle forces readers to reckon with the violence at the root of American white supremacy, but also with the survival and resistance that brought about slavery; it also created a culture that conflicted with America’s deepest dreams of freedom.

The story has a few dramatic events that takes you on a mental roller coaster which makes the book exciting. This book marks several changes in the young man, his growing awareness of himself and his surroundings, and his gradual disillusionment with several of the people and places he has idolized. The portraits that is drawn of his family are not always flattering, yet his love for the people most important to him is clearly evident. He does not spare himself either. Percy is portrayed as needy for attention and capable of spite and manipulation.
