The Mackenzie River Delta channels contain many deep holes, which are due primarily to fluvial scour. There are several possible causes of these holes and possible processes that intensify the features, such as wave action, thermal erosion of permafrost, ice scour, and bank erosion. The proposed natural gas Mackenzie Valley Pipeline would run from Prudhoe Bay, Alaska, into Canada. This report was written for planning of one of the alternate routes, the Cross Delta Route, which would pass through the Mackenzie River Delta to the Richards Island supply line northwest of Tununuk Point and would cross eleven significant channels.
