All freshman year Jack Donnigan wanted to ditch the nerds and become cool. When Jack-a protected 16-year-old sophomore at St. Andy's Prep in Southern California in 2000-gets accepted into The Crew, a renegade punk clique on campus led by the nefarious and intelligent Cannonball ("Cannon"), he is thrilled. But he soon challenges Cannon's leadership by starting a secret relationship with Sarah-a punk-feminist who Cannonball mysteriously says is off-limits-trying hard drugs, and jumping on stage at punk shows. Jack's relationship with Mom becomes strained. He stays out late and rebels for the first time. The faculty at St. Andy's-wanting to dismantle the cult hero status of The Crew-organize a coup. They plan to nail the perceived leader: Jack Donnigan, who's been conned by Cannonball. Jack's mentor is his unconventional English teacher, Mr. Bryce, who teaches Jack a more nuanced world view. When the faculty nail Jack, Mr. Bryce does his best to save the floundering student. But when Jack is kicked out of his folks' home, expelled from school, and Cannonball steals Sarah by spreading a web of lies: Who will save Jack from himself?

Inhaltsangabe:Einleitung: Ziel dieser wissenschaftlichen Abhandlung ist es, im Hinblick auf die große Aktualität des Themas, die institutionellen Rahmenbedingungen des Neuen Marktes zu beschreiben sowie momentane Entwicklungen eingehender zu ergründen und in einer kritischen Betrachtung zu würdigen. Es ist zu erörtern, ob die bisherigen Rahmenbedingungen des Neuen Marktes jungen, dynamischen Unternehmen einen adäquaten institutionalisierten Zugang zur Wachstumsfinanzierung bieten und dabei die Ziele Transparenz, Liquidität und Anlegerschutz hinreichend berücksichtigt werden. Darzulegen sind z.T. deskriptive Elemente zu Institutionen wie der Börse, den Banken und sonstigen tangierenden Akteuren des Neuen Marktes. Weiterhin ist zu analysieren, inwieweit durch etwaige Reformen bestehende Missstände im Marktsegment beseitigt und Friktionen verringert werden können. Damit unweigerlich verbunden sind bewertende, normative Elemente und Aussagen. Aus aufbautechnischen Gründen erfolgt zuweilen keine strikte Trennung zwischen kritischer Analyse und Vorschlägen zum Reformbedarf. Insbesondere werden in der Erörterung teilweise Ausführungen zu anglo-amerikanischen Regelungen und Rahmenbedingungen vorgestellt, falls dort Sachverhalte besser gelöst zu sein scheinen als im nationalen Kontext respektive am Neuen Markt. Angesichts der immer stärkeren Globalisierung der Wachstumsmärkte darf dieser Gesichtspunkt nicht unbeachtet gelassen werden. In die Erörterung fließen teilweise Anregungen, manchmal auch Kritiken ein, die im geplanten 4. Finanzmarktförderungsgesetz seitens des Gesetzgebers angedacht sind. Die Tatsache, dass eine Veränderung der Rahmenbedingungen des Neuen Marktes in Teilbereichen ein Tätigwerden des Gesetzgebers erfordert und nicht allein durch Vorschriften des Regelwerks Neuer Markt erreicht werden kann, deutet auf die Komplexität der Materie hin. Two Years in New York: Before, During and After Covid is the "fictional memoir" of a young man-Michael Mohr-from California (an ambitious writer in his mid-thirties) who, after a breakup, flees the Bay Area for Manhattan to chase the elusive authorial ghost, as it were, of Kerouac, Updike, Mailer, Sontag, Didion and all the other famous 20th century writers who lived in Manhattan, the mecca of the writers' world. In 2019 he makes the move. But what he cannot foresee-what no one can-is the explosion of Covid-19, the BLM riots, the political polarization of the country, the madness of Trump and the questioning of institutions. Living in a rough part of East Harlem, Michael was lucky to get out alive. Told in stellar first-person prose, hewing to the autobiographical memoir style of authors such as Nabokov and Henry Miller, Two Years in New York covers 2.3 years of a pandemic, a dazzling, complex relationship between Michael and a talented painter, the clash between Michael's imaginative expectations of The Big Apple and the way it actually is, and the romantic reality of finally being in New York.
