Described by the Law Society's Gazette as being an academic work of distinction, Bromley's Family Law is a well-established and popular textbook with students and practitioners alike. The eighth edition has been radically revised and updated throughout to reflect the many major legal and social developments that have taken place in family law in recent years, including, of course, the far-reaching implications of the Children Act 1989.
This latest edition reflects the general trends in the development of family law, in particular the increasing emphasis upon the parent-child relationship and the diminishing significance of marriage. Therefore substantial changes have been made both to the overall structure and to the content. For example, the chapters on Divorce and Family Protection have been entirely re-written in the light of the Family Law Act 1996.
The leading authority in its field, Borrie and Lowe is a comprehensive statement of the law relating to criminal and civil contempt of court. Regularly cited in the Courts, this substantial and authoritative title is also highly regarded by members of the press. In its fourth edition, the work includes chapters incorporating: * Human Rights Act 1998 * Children and Young Persons Act 1933 * Youth Justice and Criminal Evidence Act 1999 * Civil Procedure Rules - alternative approaches to prejudicial publicity and how it impacts on different sets of proceedings, recent common law and statutory developments * Discussion on journalists' privilege of non-disclosure of sources * Discusses the growth of digital publications via the Internet and the problems it may cause for jurors - e.g. assuming the guilt of a defendant * Considers whether publication on Internet sites such as Facebook etc. fall into the 'strict liability' contempt under the Contempt of Court Act 1981 * Considers whether search engines such as Google and Yahoo are responsible for prejudicial material published on the Internet that may be liable for contempt

The Principles of European Family Law - drafted by the Commission on European Family Law (CEFL) - contain models which may be used for the harmonization of family law in Europe. This book contains the Principles regarding property relations between spouses. In these Principles, the CEFL has developed an all-inclusive set of rules for two matrimonial property regimes: the participation in acquisitions and the community of acquisitions. Both regimes have been put on an equal footing. Each matrimonial property regime, whether it functions as a default or as an optional regime, is strongly connected with the rights and duties of the spouses and the possibility for them to make a marital property agreement. These issues have also been addressed by including two common chapters on the general rights and duties of spouses and on marital property agreements, which are to be applied regardless of which of the regimes applies. What do adopted children themselves think about the adoption process? Do they view their experiences in a positive or negative light? Do they feel their wishes are taken into account? These and many other questions are tackled in this unique study of the adoption process which is the first that has set out to document and comment on the experience of adoption from the view point of the children involved.
