Reviews a project that combined analytical study and experimental verification to investigate the effects of imperfections and secondary structures on the buckling collapse of pressure hulls. After an introduction on the project, section 2 describes the ring-stiffened models used, the introduction of out-of-circularity into the models, the instrumentation of the models, and the experimental results. Section 3 describes comparison of experimental and predicted results for the early linear response to loads. The non-linear behaviour and final collapse comparisons are described in section 4. Section 5 discusses the use of harmonic amplitude values to interpret out-of-circularity and to check design tolerances. The final section derives conclusions on the prediction methods used.
