When successful entrepreneur Peter Edward Baumann drives 752 miles from Newport Beach, California, to Lake Shastina Golf Resort outside of Weed, California, in May of 1979, he has no idea this trip will provide the foundation for the rest of his life. Here, Peter finds himself torn between two sisters—Katy and Patti. By the end of that night, Peter and his brother Brian get into a fight over Katy. Within three days, both sisters express interest in Peter. He marries Katy, and within fourteen years, he has an affair with Patti, whom he considers his soul mate, only to lose her five times in sixteen years, the last time to a heart attack. Love Was Not Enough is Peter’s story covering a span of thirty-one years. He shares the ups and downs, the joys and the sorrows, and the lessons he learned about love, marriage and raising children, all while founding and operating six businesses.

  • Book cover of Theology and Modern Physics

The new discoveries in physics during the 20th century have stimulated intense debate about their relevance to age-old theological questions. Views range from those holding that modern physics provides a surer road to God than traditional religions, to those who say that physics and theology are incommensurable and so do not relate. At the very least, physics has stimulated renewed theological discussions. In this critical introduction to the science-theology debate, Peter E. Hodgson draws on his experience as a physicist to present the results of modern physics and the theological implications. Written for those with little or no scientific background, Hodgson describes connections between physics, philosophy and theology and then explains Newtonian physics and Victorian physics, the theories of relativity, astronomy and quantum mechanics, and distinguishes the actual results of modern physics from speculations.

  • Book cover of The End of Poverty

In this book Edward and Sumner argue that to better understand the impact of global growth on poverty it is necessary to consider what happens across a wide range of poverty lines. Starting with the same datasets used to produce official estimates of global poverty, they create a model of global consumption that spans the entire world’s population. They go on to demonstrate how their model can be utilised to understand how different poverty lines imply very different visions of how the global economy needs to work in order for poverty to be eradicated.

  • Book cover of Intercontinental Cooperation Through Private International Law

Dedicated to the memory of Peter E. Nygh (1933–2002), this book contains thirty original contributions authored by prominent private international law lawyers from all over the globe. Their themes include private international law, international litigation, arbitration, uniform law and European legal integration. Their treatises and approaches vary from thematic, in-depth studies to studies of a comparative nature. Born in Hamburg, Germany, and raised in the Netherlands and in Australia where his academic career started, Peter Nygh was one of the few scholars with excellent knowledge of both the common law and civil law legal systems and an in-depth understanding of their differences and similarities. He was an indispensable member, promoter and leader in the International Law Association and the Hague Conference on Private International Law. Most of these papers are based on supranational experiences and aim to continue a comparative law-based analysis of problems so well applied by Nygh.
