On a little-known 1970s experiment in pneumatic architecture by the Belgian architect and Atelier Alpha cofounder A.J. Lode Janssens (born 1947) is one of Belgium's most idiosyncratic architects and a radical educator. He was cofounder of the experimental studio Atelier Alpha and the Sint-Lucas Werkgemeenschap, a workshop linking architectural education, practice and research, and operated in close collaboration with ILAUD, the International Laboratory of Architecture and Urban Design. A.J. Lode Janssens: 1,47 mbarpresents The Balloon, an all-but-unknown temporary pneumatic home experiment, built in 1973 in Humbeek, where he lived with his family until 1986. Lode Janssens considered it an uncompromising ephemeral attempt at de-architecturalization and living in harmony with nature: a cave-dwelling, a work-in-progress, an empirical residence. This publication accompanies the exhibition A.J. Lode Janssens: Balloon Homeat CIVA in Brussels.

In 2013, sculptor and visual artist Philip Aguirre y Otegui built a natural spring in the slums of Douala, Cameroon’s largest city. The object is a functional and aesthetic whole comprising a laundry station, open-air theatre, and gathering place. Realised in cooperation with the community, it has since become the social and symbolic centre of the district. It came about as part of SUD2010 (Salon Urbain de Douala), for which the artist was invited by curator Koyo Kouoh to design a project. Through the work, the social meaning of art in public space within the postcolonial context of urbanisation and water issues in contemporary African cities is examined. With an essay by Martin Schoups.0.

Carrousel Confessions Confusion" is a series of books curated by Studio Jan De Vylder at ETH Zürich. World-renowned architects are asked to confess a building, a garden, a book or whatever could have been relevant in a certain moment of their life and career. The authors share places or situations that became sensible for personal reasons and sometimes unexpectedly. Confessing is always something personal and goes along with the idea of a certain confusion. ?Carrousel Confessions Confusion? is a series of sets. Each set is composed by 3 zines. Each zine is about 1 confession. Each confession is narrated through words and images by the author, a critical text mainly written by Maarten Delbeke, pictures by Filip Dujardin and a drawing by Inge Vinck.

After briefly working as an architect, René Heyvaert (1929-1984) decided to pursue a career as an artist. He saw art as essential to his life; a way of dealing with the world. Heyvaert's artistic practice is very versatile; he has created drawings, photos, mail art and sculptures in the most diverse of materials, and has also published and took part in performances. But he is best known for his work with found objects that he reinterprets through minimal interpositions. By carrying out small, poetic interventions, Heyvaert took everyday objects out of their context and stripped them of their original function. This catalogue is published on the occasion of the exhibition of the oeuvre of René Heyvaert at Museum M Leuven in the winter of 2018 and exposes on his artistic as well as architectural practice, with interviews, essays and personal reflections.00Exhibition: Museum M, Leuven, Belgium (28.09.2018-10.02.2019).
