The objective of this study was to develop practical techniques for the field fabrication of silencers for improvised weapons. Silencers trap propellant gases at the muzzle and release them over an abnormally lengthy time interval thus eliminating a sharp report. Methods of improvising such a system were investigated. Five component systems were tested for sound, penetration, velocity and fabrication feasibility. Results of these tests are presented. (Author).
