Field notes Vol. 215 documents Wendell Holmes Camp's experience in Ecuador in 1944-1945 on the Misión de Cinchona del Ecuador expedition. Camp joined the Misión de Cinchona del Ecuador, an expedition searching for the quinine-yielding bark of the Cinchona tree, in April 1944. The work was carried out under the United States Foreign Economic Administration, and later the U.S. Commercial Company. At the conclusion of the expedition in April 1945, Camp rejoined the staff of the New York Botanical Garden and continued collecting plants in Ecuador for an additional six months. This set of notes is arranged by date, covering May 1-October 15, 1945. The 18 loose pages are handwritten on yellow legal paper, with several small drawings. Many of the sentences are surrounded by quotation marks and perhaps were transcribed from an interview with Camp after the expedition, or taken from other notes by Camp. They are not in his handwriting, and the inclusion of his life dates in the heading suggest they were compiled after his death.
