The problems of groundwater flow through porous media have been recognized as very important in geotechnical engineering and also related fields. For example, failure of an earth slope and settlement of ground are related to the flow problems besides groundwater resources. Civil engineers have solved a lot of useful problems of groundwater by different techniques for many years. The development of numerical method changed the way to attack the difficult problems which have come out from Civil Engineer's demand.Inhomogeneity of ground, unsaturated flow, 3-dimensional analysis, environmental assessment and groundwater contamination are the typical topics that have grown up in last two decades. This paper will explain and summarize a history of ideas how the engineer solves these problems and what kinds of techniques have been used in the field of the groundwater flow analysis.
