In 2017, the Horst Janssen Museum in cooperation with the Claus Hüppe Stiftung is presenting its sixth graphic arts award winner, Tobias Dostal (*1982). With his drawings, Dostal, a student of Schlingensief, succeeds in producing moving images and fascinating filmic illusions. Transformations of human beings, animals, and objects are animated in a surprising way and shown on projection devices that the artist develops himself. References to the early years of cinema are unmistakable. 1974, zum 200jährigen Gedenken an das Geburtsjahr von Caspar David Friedrich, schafft Janssen eine Folge von siebzehn, zum Teil grossformatigen Radierungen, die er in der Mappe 'Caspar David Friedrich' zusammenfasst. Es sind vor allem Landschaften und Porträts, die er als Reminiszenz an das grosse Vorbild, aber auch an andere Künstler der Romantik, realisiert: Schroffe Felsengebirge, Figuren in der Landschaft, nahsichtige Darstellungen von Bäumen und romantische Frauenbildnisse. Besonders zu erwähnen sind auch ein Porträt Caspar David Friedrichs und ein Selbstporträt Horst Janssens. Auf letzterem brilliert Janssen mit einem dreistrophigen Gedicht über Friedrich und Philipp Otto Runge, das zunächst heiter und vordergründig daherkommt, aber gleichzeitig tiefer schürfende Überlegungen formuliert, die von seiner Auseinandersetzung mit der Romantik zeugen.
