In the dissertation I deal with the economic evaluation of human life, where Istress the evaluation of human life from the individual's point of view. In the previous socio-economic system, due to the priority given to a collective before an individual, he/she couldn't find the means to express himself/herself. Particularly I undertake the consideration of the willingness-to-pay approach, which is used for the economic evaluation of human life from the individual point of view. Theoretically, my starting-pointis the welfare economy, where priority is given to an individualand his/her needs. My purpose was to introduce the economic evaluation to professionals, as well as to a wider society, so I defined it within a historical review, theoretical considerations, different views of theeconomic evaluation of human life from the societal point of view and particularly from the individual point of view. The most frequent direct and indirect approaches are presented along with the critical evaluation. The willingness-to-pay approach, used for the indirect economic evaluation of human life from the individual's point of view, has been developed in countries with established market economies. My thesis is, that this approach can provide a reliable comparison of the economic value of human life only within these countries. If we would like to make a comparison with other countries, this approach should be adjusted so that it enables more realistic comparison. Due to this reason I suggested the standardisation of factors (among countries compared), that influence willingness-to-pay. Statistical methodology was used to explore the reationship among various factors. (Abstract truncated at 2000 characters.).

In the book we deal with the economic evaluation of human life, where we stress the evaluation of human life from the individualćs point of view. In the previous socio-economic system, due to the priority given to a collective before an individual, hežshe couldnćt find the means to express himselfžherself. Particularly we undertake the consideration of the willingness-to-pay approach, which is used for the economic evaluation of human life from the individualćs point of view. Theoretically, our startingpoint is the welfare economy, where priority is given to an individualand hisžher needs. Our purpose was to introduce the economic evaluation to professionals, as well as to a wider society, so we defined it within a historical review, theoretical considerations, different views of theeconomic evaluation of human life from the societal point of view and particularly from the individualćs point of view. The most frequent direct andindirect approaches are presented along with the critical evaluation. Usingthe willingness-to-pay approach, a human life was economically evaluated in the case of traffic accidents. This is the first kind of study in Slovenia using the willingness-to-pay approach. However, in the meantime a model for the economic evaluation of human life was developed which might be used in other similar researches. If we compare the economic value of human life in Slovenia from the individualćs point of view, using the willingness-to-pay approach, with the economic value of human life in selected countries with theestablished market economy, we can see, that the economic value of human life is relatively high in our country.
